Six days in southern Egypt invite a closer encounter with the Nile’s island landscapes and Nubian history. Aswan is the starting point for Philae, a museum visit and time with local hosts, before an overland journey to Abu Simbel with an overnight stay beside the great lake. The pace allows the temples to be experienced without compressing the entire southern excursion into one exhausting day. Return to Aswan for a final river afternoon and a flexible departure. Meals, visits and transfers are coordinated around confirmed local arrangements, with no assumptions about private temple access, wildlife sightings or a particular flight service.

6 Day

Arrive among Aswan’s islands

Morning: Meet the local team on arrival in Aswan and transfer to your hotel, letting the first hours be shaped by your flight rather than an ambitious sightseeing list.

Afternoon: After settling in, take a short introduction to the riverfront. Your guide can point out the granite islands and explain why Aswan has long been a southern gateway.

Evening: Enjoy a relaxed dinner with Egyptian breads, vegetables and grilled dishes, then discuss the next days and the logistics of the road journey south.

Travel notes: Sleep in Aswan. If you arrive late, the river introduction becomes a brief orientation at the hotel and the evening remains free for rest.

Philae and the rescued monuments

Morning: Start with the motorboat crossing to Philae. Walk through the temple precinct, connecting its religious imagery with the modern story of moving monuments above the rising water.

Afternoon: Have lunch back in Aswan and visit the Nubian Museum when open. Its collections offer context that will enrich the later visit to Abu Simbel.

Evening: Return to your hotel for dinner or choose a nearby restaurant with your guide’s practical advice, leaving the rest of the evening unstructured.

Travel notes: Sleep in Aswan. Museum opening arrangements and boat operations are confirmed locally; the order of the two visits can be exchanged without changing the day’s focus.

Elephantine and a locally hosted meal

Morning: Cross to Elephantine and explore its layered island history with your guide, taking time for the river views and the relationship between settlement and water.

Afternoon: Meet pre-arranged local hosts for lunch or tea. The conversation and food are the focus, with household visits and photography governed by your hosts’ preferences.

Evening: Return across the Nile in time for an easy dinner and an early night before the next day’s longer road transfer to Abu Simbel.

Travel notes: Sleep in Aswan. Hosting is agreed in advance and fairly arranged; the visit may use a community venue rather than a private home, depending on local availability.

The road to Abu Simbel

Morning: Depart Aswan on the approved road route with your driver, allowing for checkpoints and a break. Observe the transition from the river city into the southern desert landscape.

Afternoon: Reach Abu Simbel, have lunch and check in before a guided visit timed to the operating hours. Study both temple facades and the scale of the relocated site.

Evening: Dine in town and let the evening stay quiet. Any sound-and-light performance is an optional separate booking, only included if its operation and tickets are confirmed.

Travel notes: Sleep in Abu Simbel. The transfer takes several hours and is organised under current local requirements; the visit may move to morning if arrival or heat makes that preferable.

Temple details and return to Aswan

Morning: Use an early, confirmed temple visit to look closely at the smaller sanctuary and the relationship between royal imagery and the original cliff setting above Nubia.

Afternoon: After breakfast or an early lunch, return by road to Aswan with a planned break. Check back into your hotel and leave time to recover from the journey.

Evening: Share a final Aswan dinner, perhaps discussing how the lake and the dam reshaped the landscapes seen over the last few days.

Travel notes: Sleep in Aswan. If the main visit was completed yesterday, today’s morning can be shorter; repeated entry is not assumed and any extra ticket must be confirmed.

A last river morning

Morning: When departure time permits, enjoy a gentle river outing or a hotel breakfast with an island view. A motorboat can replace sailing if the wind is unsuitable.

Afternoon: Return to the hotel, collect luggage and have lunch before the airport transfer, keeping enough margin for road traffic and check-in procedures.

Evening: Continue from Aswan on your confirmed onward journey. For an earlier departure, the day is limited to breakfast and a direct transfer.

Travel notes: The programme ends at Aswan airport. The river outing is conditional on the flight and local boat arrangements, and there is no promised sailing duration.
