Seven Days Along the Sailing Nile

Begin in Luxor, then move from the monumental city to the more intimate scale of a Dahabiya. This seven-day journey follows an intended southbound river sequence from the Esna area towards Aswan, with time for Edfu, Kom Ombo and quieter views from the deck. The exact boarding point, moorings and intermediate stops are agreed with the chosen operator before confirmation. Temple mornings alternate with unhurried meals and river afternoons rather than a relentless schedule of excursions. Finish with Philae and a night on land in Aswan. Wind, lock operations and river conditions may change the order while preserving the journey’s overall character.

Overview

7 Day

Karnak and an evening in Luxor

Morning: Arrive in Luxor and transfer to your hotel. If the flight timing permits, meet your Egyptologist for a first walk through Karnak’s avenues and columned spaces.

Afternoon: Pause for lunch and rest near the river, then discuss the coming voyage with your coordinator, including the confirmed vessel, boarding arrangements and personal preferences.

Evening: Dine on land in Luxor, leaving time to enjoy the waterfront and prepare a small day bag for the west-bank visit before boarding.

Travel notes: Sleep in Luxor. A late arrival means the temple introduction moves into tomorrow’s available time; the final sailing schedule is confirmed with the operator.

Morning: Visit a selection of open royal tombs on the west bank with your guide. Continue to Hatshepsut’s temple if the boarding schedule and pace allow a considered visit.

Afternoon: Drive to the confirmed embarkation point near Esna, with lunch arranged around the transfer. Meet the crew and settle into your cabin before the safety briefing.

Evening: Share your first dinner on board as the boat moors for the night. The crew introduces the rhythm of meals, shore visits and quiet time on deck.

Travel notes: Sleep aboard. The operator determines departure and mooring; sailing or tug assistance is used as conditions require, and no exact first-night location is guaranteed.

Edfu and the cultivated banks

Morning: Go ashore for Edfu’s temple of Horus at the time agreed by your guide and captain. Explore its processional route and carved surfaces in a measured sequence.

Afternoon: Return for lunch on board and a river afternoon, watching fields, palm groves and working boats from the shaded deck as the vessel progresses south.

Evening: Dinner is prepared by the onboard team. Enjoy the changing river light and conversation with fellow guests, with a quiet mooring selected by the captain.

Travel notes: Sleep aboard. Shore transport and access follow local arrangements; the day can shift within the confirmed sailing route to suit river conditions and opening times.

Morning: If the vessel’s route and permissions allow, approach the sandstone landscape at Gebel el-Silsila with your guide, discussing the quarries that supplied Egypt’s monumental builders.

Afternoon: Have lunch on board and allow the afternoon to unfold at river pace. A short local walk can be considered only where landings and hosting arrangements are suitable.

Evening: Dine aboard after mooring, with time to read or enjoy the night sky from the deck without an organised performance or an intrusive village visit.

Travel notes: Sleep aboard. This landing is conditional on the operator’s confirmed itinerary; a different permitted river stop is used if access or mooring makes it necessary.

Kom Ombo’s paired temple

Morning: Visit Kom Ombo with your Egyptologist, examining the paired arrangement and the reliefs that make the temple more than a picturesque stop above the river.

Afternoon: Return to the vessel for lunch and continue towards the Aswan area, leaving the warmest hours for rest, reading and observation from the shaded deck.

Evening: Enjoy a final onboard dinner and thank the crew for the voyage. Your coordinator confirms tomorrow’s disembarkation time and the handover to the land team.

Travel notes: Sleep aboard. The captain controls navigation and moorings; shore visits may change order and are never tied to an unverified exact sailing time.

Aswan and the island of Philae

Morning: Disembark at the confirmed landing and meet the Aswan team. Travel to the Philae boat pier for a guided visit focused on the temple precinct and its relocation.

Afternoon: Have lunch on land, check into your hotel and enjoy a break. If time permits, take a short riverfront walk rather than adding another major excursion.

Evening: Dine in Aswan with a different outlook on the river now that you have travelled along it, leaving the evening free for personal time.

Travel notes: Sleep in Aswan. Disembarkation timing depends on the vessel’s confirmed schedule, and the Philae visit can be adjusted to the available boat service.

Morning: Enjoy breakfast and a final view over Aswan’s islands, with time to pack at an easy pace if your flight leaves later in the day.

Afternoon: Have lunch or a light snack before collecting luggage and transferring to the airport. The team keeps the day flexible around the confirmed flight.

Evening: Continue on your onward journey from Aswan; an early departure replaces the leisurely morning with a direct hotel-to-airport transfer.

Travel notes: The programme ends in Aswan. No extra sightseeing is assumed on departure day, so changes in flight timing do not put a promised visit at risk.
